Rosalinda's Hobbies

We carry a wide variety of hobbies, including products related to crochet jewelry making, knitting, and more.

I've been involved in knitting since I was 6 years old. I was taught by a friend of the family in my local community. I started knitting because in Mexico, there is a custom to teach the children how to do little things like knitting, cross stitch, crocheting, and other hobbies around the home. Since that time, I've been knitting off and on for many years. I've made sweaters for my daughter and my mother for Christmas gifts and one for myself for fun.

Here are 5 steps I recommend to get started in Knitting:

  1. Start with beginners projects: this includes projects likes hats, scarves, and mittens. Knitting books will show you the different knitting levels necessary  for the particular project you choose.
  2. Go to a knitting shop: many times at knitting shops there are classes that will teach you the basics to get started. They also have a knitting circle were people can meet and work on their project with an added bonus of getting help from other knitters if you hit a snag. You can also make friends that share the passion for the hobby.
  3. Find magazines and books about knitting: you can find a lot of valuable and free information at the library. Bookstores and Craft shops are another place to look for supplies and to save money by taking advantage of their sales.
  4. Take a leap and get started: knitting isn't for everyone. The only way to know if knitting is for you is to give it a try.
  5. Find someone that has been there and done that: having someone there to walk you through things and help you can be so helpful, both for your confidence and also for your check book. Find a friend who likes to knit: not only will it be a good excuse to get together but it will also be helpful to learn and have a lot of fun, too.
